What is XMedia Recode?
XMedia Recode is a software application that is capable of converting a wide range of popular audio and video formats. These include but are not limited to 3GP, 3GPP, 3GPP2, AAC, AC3, AMR, ASF, AVI, AVISynth, DVD, FLAC, FLV, H.261, H.263, H.264, M4A, M1V, M2V, M4V, Matroska (MKV), MMF, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, TS, TRP, MP2, MP3, MP4, MP4V, MOV, OGG, PSP, (S) VCD, SWF, VOB, WAV, WMA and WMV. It is important to note, however, that XMedia Recode is only capable of converting DVDs that are not protected.
In addition to its conversion capabilities, XMedia Recode also offers basic editing functionalities. It allows for output to "Video and Audio", "Video only" or "Audio only" and provides the option to copy video and/or audio tracks from the input file to avoid conversion. The software includes presets, known as Profiles, for various media devices such as PS3, Xbox 360, iPhone, PSP, Zune and more. It supports multiple languages including German, English, French, Italian and Japanese, and includes a Bitrate-Calculator for calculating the required video bitrate to achieve a desired filesize based on various Media (CD, DVD, memory cards, etc.).
XMedia Recode also allows users to choose a percentage of the media for fine controlling and supports up to 2 Audio Tracks. It displays basic media info about each video using MediaInfo, with a more detailed view accessible from the right click context menu for each video. The software supports batch processing when multiple videos are selected in the main interface (via ctrl+click or shift+click). Multiple highlighted jobs will all have the same conversion settings and multiple jobs will be added simultaneously. Video editing features include cutting, cropping (manual and auto crop), padding, color correction, deblocking, denoising, sharpening, channel inversion, grayscaling, deinterlacing, audio channel mapping, volume adjustment and audio normalization.

In English - I needed to convert an video file in .mp4 to AVI or other file format to edit it in Sony Vegas. This so far is the best program in windows to do such thing. It's free,doesn't come with any other bundle (as "bundleware"), antivirus friendly (at least for me using Qihoo 360) an simple to use. Totally recommended,awesome alternative to programs such as freemake video convert and others.
In Brazilian Portuguese - Precisei converter um arquivo de vídeo em .mp4 para AVI ou outro formato para editar no Sony Vegas. Esse até agora é o melhor programa no windows para tal tarefa. É gratuito,não vem com nenhum outro programa indesejado(chamado de "bundleware"), amigável ao antivírus (pelo menos para mim usando Qihoo 360) e simples de usar. Totalmente recomendável,ótima alternativa a progrmas como freemake video convert e outros.
Was the best free converter available for Windows. Now it's a buggy mess. Ignores parameters you set up for conversion including output folder and uses parameters for previous session. Or doesn't convert anything and just throws an error.
Offers more details on formats/codecs and has a bit more options compared to Shutter Encoder
The only program I could find that would allow me to copy MP4 video without reencoding yet also allow me to swap out the AAC audio for Dolby Digital, which my finicky device requires. Fast and batch processing too!
Pitty, it crashes repeatedly [the app simply terminates itself], after adding a video-file { installed on Win10, latest version; latest device-drivers, etc.}. I am looking for an alternative to Handbrake {as side-bar-trimming of old video-records & achieving the correct aspect-ratio is a trial- & error-business with it}. Alas, Xmedia Recode is not the solution for the afore reason.
Maybe the next full version will resolve this problem?
