What is Quiet Chat?
Quiet is a decentralized team chat software alternative to apps like Slack, Discord, and Element. It eliminates the need for a central server by synchronizing data directly between team devices through Tor. It's ideal for those who prioritize software freedom, decentralization, and privacy. It's written in TypeScript, with Electron and React Native frontends, and welcomes external contributions.
Features include Team Chat for creating and inviting members to a team "community", end-to-end Encryption, Slack-like channels, and image sending with copy/paste, drag & drop, and previews. It supports large file transfers without size limits and desktop notifications for new messages. Users can share invite links and navigate channels using keyboard controls. Desktop apps are available for Mac, Windows, and Linux, a fully peer-to-peer Android app, and an iOS app (TestFlight) without notifications. Quiet Chat doesn't require an email or phone number to create or join a community.
