What is sudo?

Users features:

  • simply prepend sudo to a command to run it as another user, for example root (superuser/admin)
  • When you typed your password in last 5 minutes you do not need type it again
  • sudoedit creates temporary files to edit protected files without having to run your editor as root

Admin features:

  • Only users/groups in the sudoers file can use sudo
  • restrict which commands the sudoers are allowed to run
  • log everything
