Product photos for retail are difficult to get right and critical to seller success. The “flat white background” image that showcases products is the first impression a buyer gets, and is often make or break for whether the purchase flow continues.

What is Stylized?

Product photos for retail are difficult to get right and critical to seller success. The “flat white background” image that showcases products is the first impression a buyer gets, and is often make or break for whether the purchase flow continues. Sellers pay professional photographers or commercial photo studios on a per-image basis, with a turnaround time of weeks and a cost around $50 per image. Additionally, sellers have to describe a set list of photos to the studio upfront, which takes time and wasted iteration cycles if the list needs to be edited later on.

Stylized allows sellers to take arbitrary photos of their products (think phone photo on a table with messy backgrounds) and produce professionally lighted assets ready for ecommerce webpages. It does this by extracting foreground objects, calculating depth maps, and rendering the object in a 3D scene, which allows for physically lighting the scene as if it was a real photo studio, ultimately creating realistic seamless backgrounds and shadows.

Compared to traditional commercial photography, Stylized outputs usable product images in seconds, and users can iterate on different input images and combinations without requiring a static set list.
