What is StorPool?
StorPool is software for distributed data storage that enables businesses to work with their data reliably and efficiently. It is a very powerful software-defined storage system and has advanced storage features including thin provisioning, data integrity, snapshots and clones, Quality of Service (QoS), self-healing, load balancing, and others.
StorPool makes a shared storage pool out of standard drives (HDDs/SSDs) placed in standard servers. It is like virtual SAN, aggregating the performance AND capacity of all drives into a single pool of storage distributed between all servers.
It enables so-called “converged deployments”, i.e. using the same servers for both storage and compute, therefore making it possible to have a single standard “building block” for the datacenter and slashing costs. An extension to this concept is having a tight integration of the software layers running on this converged infrastructure – hypervisor, cloud management, etc – known as “hyper-convergence” or “hyper-converged” infrastructure.

You can seamlessly scale the whole cluster by simply adding more drives or servers. This will expand both capacity and performance. The expansion of volumes and file systems on top of StorPool happens online, without stopping the service itself.
Besides integrations with OpenStack, CloudStack, OnApp and OpenNebula StorPool is also compatible with almost all technologies in the Linux stack. It also has integrations/support for Xen, XenServer, LVM, Docker, Kubernetes, LXC, libvirt, Proxmox, to name the more common ones.

With StorPool, we now offer our customers a high performance, SSD based storage system. Compared to the storage we used before, StorPool is much faster. Providing our customers with a fast shared storage system ensures customer satisfaction and growth. Due to the quality of StorPool, and the high level of support, we now spend less time managing the solution. This allows our technical staff to focus on core duties and new business projects.
Managing StorPool is much simpler than our previous storage system, especially having a CLI option which our previous storage system was lacking. Monitoring a StorPool cluster is also simple with the built in JSON API.
We would recommend StorPool without reservation, to anyone who needs what they offer. The StorPool solution has met or exceeded our expectations. StorPool’s staff has been highly responsive, competent, and has performed their duties in a professional manner.
