Comments and Reviews
I think start.me it is an outstanding bookmark manager, RSS feed and note tool and let you create mixed content pages in a quite stunning way. I use it since more than tree years and I enjoy it a lot. Its a Company from Germany which works close together with its user community. The development speed is quite awesome. The features they implemented are superb and makes sense, the UI optimisation is always on the go... 20 bucks and you get a lovely bunch of features at hand to create your collections. I recommend it for everyone, to use it privately, share it with a group or with the whole Web... 🍬🚀💖
Having to log in only via another service (Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc) and having no control over what this service reads (i.e., all of my tweets) is a big problem for the privacy-conscious person. The simple fact that you can't sign up with the good old email-and-password option, added to this invasive recording of all social media posts is a definite deal breaker for me.
What you said might have been true in 2016, but now you can log into start.me with an email address, no access to tweets or anything else.
Proprietary instead of open source, and the free tier is ad supported. Both are red flags for a service that wants you to trust them with your interests and other data. Wallabag and Karakeep are clearly the better choice if you value privacy and transparency.
This used to be a pretty great service. RSS, bookmark display/manage/dashboard, it had nice widgets, it was free for most things. Now it's a completely paid product if you want to have any of the truly useful features they have left. Duplicate finder, and dead link finder. Those would help me a lot, but they are not worth paying for, when that's all I'm getting anymore!
All the best widgets are gone - like email. Or displaying things from a website. So this really isn't worth using anymore, unfortunately.
At least they still use RSS, I guess. Maybe it'll be useful to you, if you want to pay for it
Not bad, but you are limited in the adjustment of layout. I'd like something that sort of let's me make my own Newzit.
BEWARE! Start.me has started hijacking any shortcuts/bookmarks you add to your homepage for stores & inserting their referral links instead without telling you at all! I wouldn't even have known without my adblocker warning me when I clicked my own shortcut to Amazon!
Idk about you... but I don't find sneaking around altering my links without permission or notification to be very trustworthy!
You sure it wasn't another program/service/something that messed up with your links? So far I couldn't find anyone else reporting this...
It's the best reader for RSS feeds, that's what I use it for. Able to group and quickly glance at the latest feeds. Also stocks and weather. That's what makes it the best start page service that I've found.
