What is SimpleX Chat?
SimpleX Chat is an encrypted, open-source messaging platform prioritizing user privacy. It uses no traditional identifiers for maximum privacy, confirmed by a security assessment by Trail of Bits in November 2022.
Features include end-to-end encryption for messages, images, and files, with message editing, replying, and deleting options. It supports encrypted audio and video calls, secret chat groups, and private notifications. Users can transfer their chat history and contacts to other devices with a portable chat profile.
The platform doesn't use identifiers, ensuring privacy of identity, profile, contacts, and metadata. It provides protection against spam and abuse, and users can only be contacted through a one-time invitation link or a temporary user address. All data is stored on client devices, with messages temporarily held on SimpleX relay servers. The platform operates on a decentralized network, enabling users to use their own servers.
Users can connect via link or QR code and start messaging without needing emails, phone numbers, or passwords. User profiles and contacts are stored in the app on the user's device, inaccessible to servers. Messages are end-to-end encrypted using the open-source double-ratchet protocol and routed via servers using the SimpleX Messaging Protocol.

Comments and Reviews
There's no sign up with mobile phone or email, or sensible data. Only chat that works from origin to destiny via a link (or scanning a qr code).
Also you can use and configure your own server for more security, privacy and control of the messages sent in your chats.
And the app is free and open-source.
Probably the best privacy chat alternative.
Very cool app, works great. Only things is that the developer is weird.
very safe, secure, privacy messenger, sometimes not easy or quick to operate as a mobile app.
It just works and is very private
The top! The privatest! Has all needed functions to chatting!
I tried it first in September 2023. It felt buggy at the time. Now in July 2024 it feels mature and dependable. Development is continous. Version 6.0 was release a few weeks ago. Use it both on my Android phone and on my Linux Desktop. The focus on privacy and anonimity remains. I foresee a promising future for this instant messenger.
Has the potential to be part of the big names when it comes to FOSS privacy-focused messenger apps. It does everything Signal does but with extra privacy features. No phone number needed, no centralized servers, new quantum-proof encryption and got audited in 2022 by Trail of Bits and fixed most things aftwerwards. Listens to the community on SimpleX, Reddit and GitHub.
