Room Steals Chrome Extension

Most people don’t know that there are actually two rates involved when booking hotel rooms through online travel agencies (OTAs) like booking, Expedia, or hotels.com.

1. The wholesale rate between the hotel and the OTA.
2. The retail rate that you see and pay after those OTAs markup the price.

We built a Chrome extension that shows the wholesale rate once you’ve found a hotel on supported OTAs (booking, Expedia, and hotels.com currently). When you’re ready to book, you’ll get access to the wholesale rate through our site.

Our Chrome extension is free to use, along with the site. Since we don’t markup or take commission on the rates, we’ve essentially changed the model from markup to an annual membership based model. Think Costco for hotel bookings, anyone can shop around, but only members can make purchases.

Now, before you rage click out at the mere mention of paying a membership, just know that most of our current members have saved more than the cost of the membership in their first booking alone.

Please note: There are many sites and extensions that notify you when the direct rate from the hotel is better than the OTAs. This is a good way to get a discount in many cases, but those rates are still retail rates. In some situations, the wholesale and retail rates will be very close, meaning the margin that the OTAs are receiving are minimal. There are possible, yet uncommon, scenarios where the rate on one OTA might be lower than all others, including Room Steals due to special circumstances. In that situation, we will always direct you to the OTA that has the best price.
