Never archive without QuickPar and WinRAR! Whenever I backup to removable media, on a secondary hard drive, or online, I will compress and encrypt with WinRAR, and then create 10% ~ 75% parity repair files with QuickPar. Depending on the size of the parity files, I can rebuild whole missing sections or servery damaged files with ease. These parity files are quite widely utilized among USENET newsgroup users, when sharing large files.

You do know that WinRAR has an option to add recovery data to an archive? So you don't need PAR files for RAR archives.

That is true, but PAR2 recovery files are better in my opinion than the built in recovery that WinRAR offers.

What is QuickPar?

QuickPar creates parity volumes which can be used as verification and recovery information for a file or group of files. If such information is available and some files are damaged or missing, QuickPar may be able to reconstruct the originals from the damaged files and the PAR volumes. It is often used to recover damaged or missing files that have been downloaded through Usenet.
