print-ascii is described as 'Render text in ASCII in the terminal' and is an app. There are three alternatives to print-ascii for a variety of platforms, including Linux, BSD, Arch Linux, MS-DOS and Mac apps. The best print-ascii alternative is Shuffle ASCII, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like print-ascii are FIGlet and toilet.

The TOIlet project attempts to create a free replacement for the FIGlet utility. TOIlet stands for “The Other Implementation’s letters”, coined after FIGlet’s “Frank, Ian and Glen’s letters”.
