I started using phpVirtualBox months ago, and I'm very happy with the results. The interface is easy to use and has very few limitations! I can clone, backup, start, stop, reinstall, install with isos, and I can do it all from a web browser. The import/export tool makes redundancy a breeze.

Pros: Easiest web interface for any hypervisor. They took great care to mimic the VirtualBox gui and it pays off in spades. Working from a central interface, you can tweak settings, make new installs, clones, delete instances and even see the console. Also with a few configuration tweaks you can autostart guests when the machine boots, making power loss a non issue. Error logging is also easily accessible from the web interface, if there are any to speak of.

Cons: Installation is hit or miss and takes at least an hour.

While I still recommend using phpvirtualbox for any user, if you don't have linux command line experience and don't feel comfortable in putty, I would leave the heavy lifting to someone with more linux expertise. Documentation is also hit or miss.

Errors pop up from time to time in the gui, but they don't necessarily affect the reliability of the system. Also the console mouse is weird until you install virtualbox guest additions.

Some minor issues: in future releases, it might be nice to have a way to upload ISO installation CDs. Right now I have to upload or wget ISOs and import/exports - and although it's easy for me, less capable users might find it hard or confusing.

I have only used phpvirtualbox on Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, and haven't had any crashes.

What is phpVirtualbox?

An open source, AJAX implementation of the VirtualBox user interface written in PHP. As a modern web interface, it allows you to access and control remote VirtualBox instances. Much of its verbage and some of its code is based on the (inactive) vboxweb project. phpVirtualBox was designed to allow users to administer VirtualBox in a headless environment - mirroring the VirtualBox GUI through its web interface.
