What is Panoramax?
Panoramax is a digital resource for sharing and exploiting field photos. Anyone can take photographs of places visible from the public highway and contribute them to the Panoramax database. This data is then freely accessible and reusable by all.
How does it work?
Panoramax federates initiatives (by local authorities, OSM contributors, IGN, etc.) to promote the emergence of a geo-common of immersive view databases.
1. A geo-common
- Field photos (360° or not) accessible to all
- Standards and rules for use and contribution
- Best practices and tools to encourage use
2. Flexible hosting
- A federation with solutions tailored to each user's needs: shared or self-hosted instance
- A common principle of open data
- Instance-specific re-use licenses
3. Shared governance
- Open decision-making processes
- Open forums for all members of the community
- A wide range of players to ensure the project's long-term viability
Why contribute to Panoramax?
Panoramax allows the contribution and reuse of field photos for many use cases such as: management of street furniture and roads, identification of traffic signs, etc.
