What is Orient?

Orient is for plotting and analyzing orientation data - data that can be described by an axis or a direction in space or, equivalently, by a position on a sphere or circle. Examples of orientation data include: geologic bedding and cleavage planes, fold axes, faults and fault slip directions, paleomagnetic vectors, glacial striations, and wind and current flow directions.

Data may be input as strike and dip, trend and plunge, spherical coordinates, longitude and latitude, azimuth and altitude, declination and inclination, or other measurements. Orient plots and contours spherical projections, including equal area and stereographic projections, creates circular histograms, calculates spherical statistics, plots fault slip data, and does spacial analysis of orientation data.

Rose Diagram Data can be entered using a spreadsheet style interface, or can be imported using comma or tab delimited spreadsheet files (CSV, TSV or TXT), or other format text files. Graphs can be exported as bitmap images in various formats, or as PDF, SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), and DXF vector graphics files which can be imported into graphics editing programs.

Orient is freeware with the stipulation that it's use be acknowledged. Please read the documentation and the accompanying ReadMe file for additional information.
