What is OpenEUICC?

OpenEUICC is an open-source implementation of a Local Profile Assistant (LPA) designed for managing eSIM profiles on Android devices. It enables devices that do not natively support eSIM functionality to utilize eSIM technology, enhancing connectivity options. OpenEUICC is licensed under the GNU GPL v3, allowing for modification and redistribution.

The application supports any eUICC chip compliant with the SGP.22 standard and offers two main variants: a privileged version that requires system app installation and an unprivileged version called EasyEUICC. It provides a user interface for managing eSIM profiles, allowing users to activate, deactivate, and switch between profiles easily. OpenEUICC can also access eUICC chips through USB CCID readers.

While it aims for broad compatibility, limitations exist, such as incomplete carrier API support and potential conflicts with the Android Settings app. The source code is available on Gitea, and a Magisk module is provided for users running custom ROMs.
