In short Open Tibia is a great open source game with a lot of creative development and potential, and active and interested game developers, but highly controversial community management ever since the community was hijacked and taken over by use of DDoS attacks in 2007.
The game is spec full of features, has a clean and intuitive interface, is fun and popular both among players and developers, with over 10k concurrent players at any moment of time 24/7 (see https://otservlist.org/), the game is also designed to be completely anti-cheat without any intrusive methods by simply having all game operations taking place on the server side, making all form of in-game hacking essentially impossible without some particular exploit of unknown server sided bugs which are rare.

Creative and highly social MMORPG with survival / battle royale elements. It captures the best of "have fun and socialize" RPG aspects with the action-adventure aspects of a dungeon crawler and the highly competitive aspects of a survival / battle royale game, except there's no team fixing, you'll have to make friends on your own.
The game is FLOSS so you can customize the game easily through editing the config, XML and Lua files, or for high level customization you can make your own changes in C++.
The game has been in active development since ca. 2001 by thousands of developers and is likely never going to completely finish due to its seemingly infinite potential to expand and add new creative ideas and API improvements.
