David Weiss, Ph.D., and David Vale, Ph.D. – our founding fathers – were the pioneers of computerized adaptive testing (CAT) and the use of item response theory (IRT). They drove early research in the 1960s and 1970s on the use of AI in assessment and psychometrics, as part of the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota. ASC was founded to bring that technology to a wider range of organizations.
