What is MicMute?
MicMute is a small program that will enable you to easily manage the level of a connected microphone. The application also supports push-to-talk thanks to the built-in 'Transmitter Mode'. While it runs minimized in the system tray, MicMute? can be controlled trough keyboard shortcuts you choose. The software uses tray notification balloons and it also has a sound signal option you can activate.

It might be discontinued, but it still works (make sure you have the correct audio drivers installed, update them if needed).
It does exactly what it says it does. You can even toggle focus between different recording devices. There's a COMMERCIAL version of it on the Windows Store that "stole" the source code from this project and made a "prettier" GUI for it, but functionally they're identical.
