What is Memtest86+?
Memtest86+ is a free-to-download memory test software designed to test and stress test an x86 or x64 architecture computer's random access memory (RAM) for errors. It tries to verify that the RAM will accept and correctly retain arbitrary patterns of data written to it, and that there are no errors which make different bits of memory interact, or in addressing memory.
Comments and Reviews
It doesn't need an installed OS to test your RAM, and it tests your whole memory area, because it relocates itself.
OMFG.
One of the sections of the Memtest86+ website is titled "Troubleshoot PC Instabilities". However, the only apparent available download is a beta for which the following comment is offered: "v6 is NOT READY for production yet! Please consider the code as experimental and expect crashes and freezes."
OK, so let me diagnose my crashes and freezes with this s**tware that offers me more of the same.
If there's an older, more stable version, I'm not readily able to find it. Anyone who gushes over this is the kind of person I'd happily feed into a wood chipper. "OH IT'S FREE THEREFORE IT'S FOR MEEEEEEEE!!!"
