Kai 9000 is an open-source AI assistant compatible with various operating systems and offers a web-based version. Unlike standard chatbots, it creates an interactive user interface within the chat, producing native elements like buttons, forms, and tables. Users can request tools like calculators or quizzes and interact with them in the chat.

The AI assistant has a "Soul & Memory" feature, remembering key information from past conversations, reinforcing this knowledge over time to improve responses. It also has a "Heartbeat" system, checking on tasks, emails, and trends periodically.

Kai works with 24 services including ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. It allows running local models for offline use, adding multiple accounts, reordering priorities, and handling outages through a smart fallback chain. It offers a free tier for immediate use without an API key.

Besides chat, Kai provides over 40 tools for tasks like web search, email management, and notifications. It also has an Interactive UI Mode, turning it into a visual app builder.

For privacy, all chat history is encrypted and stored locally on the user's device. The software doesn't feature ads, collect data, or track user activity. API calls go directly to the chosen provider without Kai acting as a middleman. Users can run local models for a fully offline and private experience.
