What is Ingglish?
What if every spelling always made the same sound? What if you could read any word correctly?—?even one you'd never seen before? That's Ingglish.
How it works:
- Drop the silent letters: No silent letters. Every letter contributes to the sound.
- One sound, one spelling: Same sound always written the same way.
- Simplify the strange ones: Complex letter combos become what they sound like.
- “Th” hides two sounds: Say "thin," then "the." Feel the vibration? Different sounds, different spellings. Only about 20 common words use "dh" — the, this, that, they, mother, other — but they're among the most frequent in English.
Ingglish uses the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary (134,000+ words) to convert English words to their phonemic spellings.
