Kickstarter is currently for US projects only. IndieGoGo seems like the best Kickstarter alternative for non US projects.
Indiegogo does not check the sellers and offers no real protections for people.
Companies from places like China come on here all the time and ask for investments for products that have already been on the market on places like Taobao for a while.
They will also ask for money, and then split with the money. There is no real way to collect from these scam promises when they offer something like a product.
For example, look at Arpara VR goggles. They scammed every single person who donated in consideration of a pair of goggles or other gift.
