What is FormRead?
FormRead.org is a free and open-source, web-based software for scanning, recognizing, and grading forms, primarily focusing on Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) answer sheets. It utilizes three core technologies:
OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) for reading filled-in bubbles (marks).
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) for reading printed or handwritten text.
BCR (Bar Code Recognition) for recognizing barcodes and QR codes.
The application allows users to design their own forms using any office or drawing tool. Users can then scan the completed forms as images or PDFs using a standard desktop scanner, or even directly with a mobile phone camera, thanks to features like corner detection.
As a client-side, web-based tool, it requires no installation. It offers instantaneous processing, with the ability to automatically check for errors. The final results, including student scores and question-by-question data, can be easily exported into various formats such as CSV or MS Excel. It also provides an API for enterprise users to integrate the recognition functionality into their own system
