Unfortunately, this excellent app seems to have been discontinued. There's a message on the web site saying "ForeverSave is not yet compatible with macOS 11 Big Sur or macOS 12 Monterey but an update is coming soon!". I contacted the company, but no reply. Discontinued app. RIP.

Foreversave has been my first line of backup+versioning strategy on live projects.

It has many features as listed below :

  • Create a library (or several libraries) and point to a Folder/Drive for the libraries. Switch between them if needs be.
  • Add Applications manually or pick from a list of open applications.
  • Set number of backup versions you would like to have.
  • Autosave (Cmnd+S) triggers save commands in the application you are working at present. You can set the interval manually.
  • You can set Foreversave to exclude file types and folders.
  • It provides a neat GUI to browse through versions and restore them to a location of your choice.
  • You can delete all or selected versions from the app window.
  • It saves full versions of files in the library folder under the application name.

It is not a substitute for Backup/Imaging/Time machine-like functionality if that is what you are looking for. Use it in conjunction with your other backup systems.
