What is FloatTube?

After installing, open any YouTube video page — when you scroll down and the original video goes out of view, an in-page floating mini player automatically appears.

Unlike Picture-in-Picture, this player stays within the YouTube page, letting you keep watching while reading comments or browsing related content — no need to scroll back up.

You can drag, resize, and control it just like the original player. It also supports YouTube's CC subtitles and even special caption effects, so you never miss a detail.

Safari PiP enhancements:

  • Supports displaying YouTube subtitles in the native PiP player.
  • Allows you to adjust the appearance of subtitles in the PiP player through System Preferences for a customized style.

Tutorial:

  1. Open Safari, then choose Safari > Preferences from the menu bar in Safari.
  2. Click on Extensions.
  3. Check the box next to the FloatTube extension to enable it.
  4. Open any YouTube video page. Click the FloatTube extension icon in the Safari toolbar.
  5. You will see a prompt: The extension "FloatTube" would like to access youtube.com. Click Allow to grant access.
