Comments and Reviews
i haven't really gone through all of its features, but when i downloaded this i wanted one thing and only one thing; an image viewer that would go into full screen mode and can be controlled using the keyboard.. this can do it and howwwww ! plus the added incentive of moving the mouse to different corners to get a plethora of options.. The options include ability to edit the image files in-house I love the utility it has to apply current image as the custom wallpaper more importantly, even on an old machine like mine the application is pretty smooth even with a large number of images within one folder
amazing work i must say... worth donating to the developer [Edited by schizovivek, October 07]
As fast as IrfanView but with way better color correction tools and better than XnView overall with fine directory view options but... but lacks support to animated WEBP files (which are displayed as static images) - since webp is increasingly used, it' becoming obsolete and that's really a pity.
It will now display WEBP files. WEBPs can also be converted to JPGs. I too like it more than IrfanView. Cheers!
@pasiojunk Excuse me but current version 7.5 indeed displays static WEBP normally but, if they are animated (like animated GIFs), they're displayed as static images. It should be added that not long ago I politely asked about this to developers but they simply did not answer.
I apologize. I misunderstood your review.
I am a many years XnView user. This time, on a new machine I decided to try FastStone which was around all the time, but I really never tried it myself. Well, after some time, all I can say is that FastStone is a great light viewer. It loads fast, all the default settings seem logical and convenient to me. I like the button icons, and placement of the most used ones. It is one of the few programs that you can just install and start using without the need to dig deep into it's settings. And this is a great characteristic in my opinion.
I've used FastStone for creating JPG/PDF with filenames printed underneath. For that it worked great!
Very fast. Seems to auto-refresh so additions to a folder show up without a fuss. I can force a refresh to get things sorted (ie, alphabetically) again. Simple to add external editing apps (although not all may work perfectly as Luminar Neo doesn't switch to that photo all the time (although it does get opened); that's Luminar Neo's issue although, once you know about it, it's not a big deal. Seems to have many more functions and options than I'll probably ever use but, hey!, it's free and, as mentioned earlier, very fast and configurable. Can't think of anything to complain about.
Great program for the sophisticated image viewer capable of quick detailed information and allowing considerable editing. The reason I use Faststone as my default is the Thumbnail previews. They can be set larger than any other viewer I've found, and I'm able to slide thru to find a chosen image. FastStone puts them in a mouseover popup at the top by default. You can shut them off in settings to save resources. When the picture is in full-screen with the thumbnails on, I see the window as collapsible, but not resizeable. Lot of settings.
[in NOT discontinued] Great software. Fast, full of features and personalizations. Last update: 31 March 2022
