What is FaceTrackNoIR?
FaceTrackNoIR is only available for Windows-based PC's (sorry, we have to start somewhere) and has been succesfully used on XP, Vista and Windows 7. The program was written in (Visual Studio) C++ and uses the (non-commercial) faceAPI from SeeingMachines to retrieve the headpose- data from the webcam. The program also uses the Qt-toolkit from Nokia for the User-interface. FaceTrackNoIR is open-source: you can download the sources from the SourceForge repository.

To sum it up in simple terms this Free piece of software is quite simply superb. It allows complete and total 6 degrees of freedom head tracking with NO other equipment other than a simple webcam - and mine is a very simple and cheepy webcam..... Just install the software and link it to your webcam and use the profiles to help you configure things to your liking and run your favourite sim. The app is congirable during play so you can constantly refine the settings to get the best views possible and then save the profile out to a specific name. I was in the process of building a Freetrack ir light headset, but when I found this I dropped the idea - although Facetrack is compatible with Freetrack sims such as Arma2. This saves tons of cash over other commercial products like TrackIR so - give it a try and you wont be disappointed! Ron
