What is Key (Visual Arts) series?

Key (Visual Arts) series is a Japanese visual novel game series known for its dramatic plot-oriented storylines.

Written and composed by Jun Maeda, with Na-Ga (and later Itaru Hinoue) as the artist, the game series debuted with Kanon (1999), combining an elaborate storyline, up-to-date anime-style art, and a musical score which helped to set the mood for the game, with later entries having a similarly complex storyline to Kanon and a more thorough gameplay. Its first two mainline games (Kanon, AIR) were released as an eroge, but the third entry, CLANNAD, was released for all ages.

The series has also been adapted to drama and manga series, with three mainline games (Kanon, AIR, and CLANNAD) being adapted into anime series by Kyoto Animation.
