What is Anchore?
Anchore is a set of tools to provide visibility, transparency, and control of your container environment. It consists of two parts: a web service hosted by Anchore Inc., and a set of open source command-line query tools. The hosted service selects and analyzes popular container images from DockerHub and other sources, and provides this metadata as a service to the on-premise command-line tools.
With these tools, you can perform a number of different kinds of queries on your container environment. You can search for the existence of packages, examine changes to files and package status, view security vulnerabilities that may impact your environment, etc.
Anchore has been designed to integrate transparently with typical developer workflows, and plug seamlessly into Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment workflows. The concept of "gates" allows you to control which container images are allowed to be promoted into staging or production environments, based on a wide variety of conditions.
