What is Anagram Artist?

Anagram Artist for Windows is an anagram creation tool, aimed primarily at facilitating the construction of medium to long anagrams but also functioning as a potent aid to short anagramming.

Its author, Mike Keith, has won dozens of Anagrammy Awards, including the coveted Anagrammatist of the Year in 1999. He wrote this software for his own use, especially to create long poetic anagrams, and has been kind enough to share it with the rest of the anagramming fraternity as freeware.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

WINDOWS

Anagram Artist has been extensively tested on Windows 98, XP, Vista, and 7. There have been unconfirmed reports that it will not run on Windows 8.

Generally each new version of Windows has a compatibility mode to run software that was written for the previous 3 or 4 versions, so it should work on Windows 8, since Anagram Artist runs fine on Windows 7.

Right click on the Anagram Artist icon and choose Properties, then click on the Compatibility tab, click the checkbox that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select "Windows 7" from the dropdown menu. For more information: see this article.

OTHER SYSTEMS

It runs on WINE, a Windows compatibility layer for running Windows applications on many Unix-like operating systems, such as Linux and Mac OSX 10.5. WINE has been ported to Sun Solaris and Free BSD. However, this is quite technically difficult and complex to set up.
