What is AirBending?
AirBending transforms your hand gestures into MIDI messages using your Mac’s built-in camera or an external one, enhancing your instrument playing expressiveness.
AirBending, an innovative MIDI controller app, transforms hand gestures into musical expression by employing computer vision and MIDI technology. It meticulously tracks hand movements in real-time using Apple's Vision framework, accurately detecting precise hand poses and finger positions.
The application seamlessly maps hand gestures to customizable musical controls. Users can manipulate pitch by horizontally moving their hands across various musical scales, while vertical movements govern volume, modulation, or pitch bend. AirBending accommodates multiple MIDI channels and control change assignments, facilitating its compatibility with digital audio workstations and external synthesizers.
AirBending presents a sophisticated preset system for creating and saving gesture-to-music mappings. Users can assign distinct hands to control musical parameters, such as pitch with their right hand and effects or dynamics with their left hand. Alternatively, they can utilize one hand to control the filter during vertical movements and the resonance during horizontal movements. The application supports a diverse range of musical scales in various keys, ensuring precise note playback.
