There are more than 50 alternatives to Adium for a variety of platforms, including Mac, Windows, Linux, Android and iPhone. The best alternative is Element, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like Adium are Tox (Free, Open Source), Pidgin (Free, Open Source), HexChat (Free, Open Source) and Facebook Messenger (Free).
