Zen web browser introduces live folders, Firefox 148 core, Linux performance boost & more

Zen, the open-source web browser forked from Mozilla Firefox, introduces an automatic folder filling feature that brings GitHub issues, pull requests, and RSS feeds directly to your browser folders. This update lets users keep track of project updates or news feeds without manual site visits.

Alongside this, Zen now runs on the Firefox 148 browser core, providing updated web standards and performance improvements inherited from the latest Mozilla release. For those using multiple tabs, dragging one tab over another for a second now offers tab splitting options. If users hold shift while pressing the “Unsplit” button, focus remains on the current split view instead of shifting.

macOS users benefit from a native popover user interface, making Zen’s appearance more consistent with macOS design. The icon picker for customizing folders and tabs has been refined to allow icon selection without closing the picker window. While improving cross-platform experience, Zen’s Linux version now loads faster and consumes fewer resources by removing bottom window rounded corners until upstream issues are solved. Finally, when using single-sidebar mode, any overflowing web extensions now conveniently display below the URL bar for improved accessibility.
