Wine 11.5 adds C++ build system, Syscall User Dispatch on Linux, and bundled ICU libraries
Wine 11.5 is now available, strengthening its role as a compatibility layer for running Windows applications on Linux, macOS, and BSD. The update delivers multiple technical advances intended to improve both performance and compatibility for users across these systems.
Leading this release, Wine 11.5 introduces C++ support in its build system, expanding flexibility for developers building and integrating Wine in custom environments. Alongside this, bundled International Components for Unicode (ICU) libraries are now included, which can enhance character encoding and Unicode handling for numerous applications.
While Linux users benefit specifically from new support for Syscall User Dispatch, this change also lays groundwork for improved performance and compatibility when running recent or complex Windows applications. Following these core enhancements, several VBScript compatibility issues have been addressed, further increasing support for Windows software relying on scripting features.
Additionally, Wine 11.5 resolves 22 bugs affecting a variety of popular programs and games. This includes fixes for Evernote, PCG Tools, Red Dead Redemption 2, Clip Studio Paint, and other utilities, which should positively impact end user experience when operating these titles under Wine.
