SuperTux 0.7 adds new abilities, revamped graphics, new enemies and local multiplayer mode
SuperTux 0.7 has been released as the latest version of this free and open-source 2D side-scrolling video game inspired by Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros series, three months after the beta release. This release introduces major updates, including brand-new sprites and new abilities for the main character Tux, such as slope sliding, strong buttjumping, rock rolling, and crawling. Graphics have also been overhauled, updating most backgrounds, tiles, objects, and enemy designs for a refreshed visual experience.
Alongside visual improvements, the level design and story elements for Story Mode, Revenge in Redmond, and Bonus Island have been fully reworked. New non-player characters like Granito and additional enemies such as DiveMine, Fish, and Corrupted Granito have been introduced. Several existing enemies, including GoldBomb, Igel, Ghoul, and both main bosses, have also received design revisions.
Building on the gameplay changes, SuperTux 0.7 features new mechanics, including glinted enemies, key-based progression, an item pocket, and unlockable bonus islands tied to Tux Dolls. The release adds new music, revamps the level editor for user-generated content, and debuts a local multiplayer mode.
Following these content additions, internal improvements include updated scripting via SimpleSquirrel, code refactoring, a CMake overhaul, Flatpak builds, and renewed Android support.
