Funkwhale 2.0 debuts API v2, new responsive UI, ListenBrainz sync and multi-artist support

Funkwhale 2.0 marks a substantial update to the decentralized music and podcast platform. This release debuts a completely overhauled API, creating a division between version 2 pods and those running version 1. Because of these breaking changes, version 2 pods will not federate with networks still running earlier software.

Alongside this breaking core change, the release introduces a redesigned, responsive user interface with both dark and light theme options. Users will find their overall experience updated, reflecting extensive changes to core workflows and visuals. Building on these improvements, Funkwhale 2.0 offers multiple artist support, supporting compilations and featured tracks across the platform.

Following these design and music library changes, the update brings enhanced social engagement. People can now follow other users, track their listening activity, see favorites, and access playlists. ListenBrainz integration also arrives, enabling listeners to sync their listening history and favorite tracks. Administrators gain the ability to restrict uploads to files tagged with metadata from MusicBrainz, supporting consistent cataloging.

Funkwhale 2.0 also introduces a content quality filter and replaces traditional libraries with playlists to refine the user experience. Additional minor enhancements and bug fixes improve platform stability and usability.
