Files 4.0.37 reduces package size, boosts home actions, adds 7z options, and improves tabs

Files 4.0.37, the latest version of this open-source file explorer for Windows, delivers a substantial reduction in installer package size, down by over 180 MB. This change enables a faster download and installation experience for users managing limited bandwidth or storage.

With this release, right-clicking on the home page now opens a dedicated menu for quick actions, including toggling widgets and adding new panes. This improvement streamlines home layout customization without leaving the start interface. Tabs that share the same folder name now display contextual path hints, aiding users in distinguishing between multiple folders that might otherwise be confusing.

Following these usability enhancements, Files 4.0.37 also introduces a dedicated action for toggling the sidebar, accessible both via the interface and through the Ctrl + B shortcut. Middle click scrolling is now supported, improving navigation in large directories. Additionally, the details' pane now includes a storage overview for connected cloud drives, giving clearer visibility into cloud storage usage.

These updates continue with advanced 7z archive options, letting users specify dictionary and word size values for customized compression. Users can also apply compression attributes to multiple files simultaneously and drag sidebar items into other applications. Several bug fixes are also included in this release.
