Wine 11.3 released with Mono 11, VKD3D 1.19, enhanced FIR filter in DirectSound, and more
Wine 11.3 has been released, bringing expanded compatibility for running Windows applications on Linux, macOS, and BSD platforms. This update introduces a series of core enhancements aimed at improving both performance and compatibility for a wide range of users.
Among the main changes, Wine 11.3 updates the mono engine to version 11.0.0, benefitting applications dependent on Microsoft's .NET technology. The bundled VKD3D library has also been upgraded to version 1.19, improving support for Direct3D 12 and strengthening Wine's capabilities in running modern games and graphics-intensive programs. Additionally, users will notice an improved finite impulse response (FIR) filter in DirectSound, translating to enhanced audio handling for supported software.
Following these updates, Wine 11.3 introduces more optimizations for program database (PDB) loading, which can help in debugging and reduce startup overhead for some applications. The light theme has been renamed to Aero, improving compatibility with software that checks for traditional Windows theming.
Wine 11.3 also delivers 30 bug fixes covering a diverse set of applications, including Rainmeter, QuarkXPress 2024, Framemaker 8, and games such as Guild Wars 2 and Flight Simulator 2000.
