Tuta Mail and Calendar now offer official open source Thunderbird add-ons for easier use

Tuta Mail and Tuta Calendar are now available as official add-ons for the Thunderbird email desktop application. This update lets users securely access both Tuta services in-app, addressing previous integration challenges caused by Tuta's built-in end-to-end encryption. Traditionally, these encryption protocols prevented use of Tuta services in Thunderbird via IMAP or CalDAV, but the new add-ons provide a dedicated workaround for this limitation.

After installing the add-ons, users see separate Tuta Mail and Calendar buttons appear in Thunderbird's Spaces toolbar. Clicking either button opens the corresponding Tuta web app in a new tab directly within Thunderbird. Following setup and a one-time login, which can be saved for convenience, users enjoy the full feature set of the web apps inside the desktop environment. This includes full access to encrypted email and calendar functions, with Tuta Drive integration planned for the near future.

All functionality is securely routed through web app access without any restrictions. Importantly for privacy-focused users, the Tuta Thunderbird add-ons are available as open source, enhancing transparency and trust in the integration approach.
