Mozilla details new user controls for blocking AI features that are coming in Firefox 148
Mozilla is rolling out new AI control options for Firefox, following significant user concerns over recently announced AI-powered features for the browser. With the arrival of Firefox 148 on February 24, users will find a dedicated AI controls section in the browser's desktop settings. This update will provide a single location to manage or completely block all current and future generative artificial intelligence functions.
Within the new controls, users will be able to review and adjust access to specific features individually, such as web page translations, automatically generated alternative text for PDFs, AI-enhanced tab grouping, link previews, and the AI chatbot that appears in the browser sidebar. If users prefer to avoid artificial intelligence entirely, a “Block AI enhancements” toggle disables all related features and suppresses pop-ups or reminders about existing and upcoming AI additions.
Following Mozilla's introduction of these options, users will have assurance that their AI preferences persist across browser updates, and can revise them at any time. These settings aim to strike a balance, allowing those who want AI enhancements to opt in while addressing privacy and user choice concerns raised in earlier announcements.

Maybe they just shouldn't be doing this at all?
