AsteroidOS 2.0 launches with always-on display, nightstand mode & performance improvements
AsteroidOS 2.0 has been released, delivering an extensive set of updates for users of this open-source smartwatch operating system based on Linux. The latest version introduces core features such as always-on display, tilt-to-wake, palm-to-sleep, and a new heart monitoring application. Step counting capabilities, music volume control, compass support, and expanded Bluetooth, including Human Interface Device (HID) and audio, further enhance the user experience.
Following the feature additions, the former QuickSettings menu on the home screen has been completely redesigned into a customizable QuickPanel. This new interface provides more settings toggles, application shortcuts, and remorse timer driven power-off functionality. Users now benefit from greater control and faster access to essential features.
Customization is further supported by seven new app launcher styles, with all options available from a dedicated launcher settings page. Watchfaces can now be paired directly with user-selected wallpapers in the gallery, improving ease of selection and visual variety. These gallery pages have also seen major performance improvements.
Building on daily usability, selected watchfaces now show a large charging status when connected to power. The nightstand settings page offers additional adjustments for users who wish to use their watch as a bedside clock. Other updates include new background animations, wallpapers, a 2048-like game, redesigned built-in apps, flashlight support, broader device compatibility, increased translations, and general system improvements and performance boosts.
