Signal now lets users pin messages in one-on-one and group chats, with time limits

Signal has added message pinning to its end-to-end encrypted messaging platform, allowing users to keep critical content at the top of their 1-1 and group chats. To pin a message, inclusive of photos, polls, or files, users simply long press the desired content. Once pinned, that message appears at the top for everyone who was present in the chat at the time it was sent.

Expanding on this change, each chat supports up to three pinned messages simultaneously. If a fourth item is pinned, Signal will automatically unpin the message that has been pinned the longest, maintaining the three-item limit. This update also introduces expiration controls: users can select to keep a message pinned for 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or indefinitely. After the chosen period lapses, the message unpins itself, although users may unpin manually at any time by tapping the pin icon.

For group conversations, admins now have the ability to specify who is authorized to pin messages, ensuring better oversight. These updates aim to streamline chat management and improve access to shared information in both personal and group conversations.

Most people use the signal encryption protocol (iMessage, RCS, whatapp). Nice to see their development team adding features to their platform. Best cross platform messenger for everyday use
