OPNsense 26.1 enhances security, network visibility, automation, and threat intelligence

OPNsense 26.1, code-named “Witty Woodpecker”, is now available as the newest Community Edition of the FreeBSD-based firewall and routing system. This release advances security, network visibility, automation, and operational clarity for administrators.

Focusing on usability, OPNsense 26.1 delivers a redesigned Firewall Rules interface that streamlines rule creation and review. An updated live firewall log view now provides clearer and faster analysis of real-time traffic decisions. These changes aim to improve daily workflows for users monitoring or adjusting network policies.

Building on the platform's open architecture, this update also expands API coverage to include Source NAT tagging and Destination NAT (port forwarding). These additions support deeper automation and more flexible integration with external tools and management systems.

Following these enhancements, OPNsense 26.1 introduces Q-Feeds plugin integration, allowing administrators to apply curated threat intelligence directly within the firewall. To complement this, the new Host Discovery feature detects active devices across connected networks, offering immediate insight into the network environment.

Rounding out the release, OPNsense 26.1 brings further updates across core services and system components, helping maintain its position as a modern, open, and API-driven firewall platform.
