OpenAI unveils Prism, a new AI workspace for collaborative sicentific research & writing
OpenAI has launched Prism, an AI-native workspace for scientists and researchers that brings drafting, revision, collaboration, and publication preparation into a single cloud-based, LaTeX-centric environment. Powered by the latest GPT-5.2 language model, Prism integrates directly into the writing workflow, utilizing the structure of papers, equations, references, and project context.
Today, Prism is free for anyone with a ChatGPT personal account. Users can launch unlimited projects, invite unlimited collaborators, and face no subscriptions or seat restrictions. These user access options aim to simplify research workflows and make collaborative scientific writing widely available.
While individual researchers can start using the tool immediately, organizations using ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Education plans are set to receive Prism access soon. Following its product lineage, Prism evolves from Crixet, a cloud-based LaTeX platform that OpenAI previously acquired, now unified into Prism after redevelopment. This history underpins Prism’s specialized focus on scientific collaboration in a LaTeX-native setting.

Is this actually going to make them money though? That's the (not) million-dollar question.
