Replit launches Plan Mode for AI-assisted planning without code changes

Replit has launched Plan Mode, an AI-powered workspace designed to enhance ideation and project planning by allowing users to collaborate with Replit Agent in a non-destructive environment. This new mode provides a dedicated space for structured brainstorming, task outlining, and architectural discussions, ensuring that no changes are made to your codebase or data during early planning stages.

Building on this foundation, Plan Mode enables users to create task lists, explore different project approaches, and engage in AI-guided feature planning. The workspace supports strategic guidance and allows for seamless transitions to code implementation once the planning phase concludes. Throughout this process, your project's integrity is maintained, as no actual code modifications occur until you explicitly initiate them.

While operating within Plan Mode, Agent’s abilities are tailored for safe exploration. It is prevented from making code changes or triggering builds but retains the capacity to inspect repositories, search documentation, and answer context-aware questions. When relevant, Agent will propose feature plans, which you can begin building by selecting “Start Building”. Plan Mode joins Build Mode — now the default — and Edit Mode to round out Replit’s collaborative development workflows.
