Blackmagic Camera 3.0 brings remote clip sync, revamped controls, and enhanced LUT support
Blackmagic Design has released version 3.0 of its Blackmagic Camera app for iOS and Android, introducing several major workflow improvements. The update enables remote syncing of clips between a phone and controller, which will benefit multi-device shoots or collaborative projects. For faster access to shooting tools, users can now tap left for presets, slate, and camera settings, while tapping right brings up three programmable functions. The navigation toolbar has also been reorganized, making tools easier to find during live shoots.
Additionally, the app now features single lens and zoom controls, which are enhanced by new dolly zoom effects. Frame rate adjustments include new off speed and time-lapse shooting modes, and camera light controls are accessible under exposure and focus. For exposure monitoring and color grading, histograms can occupy the full preview, while built-in look-up table (LUT) support now covers Apple Log, Rec.709, Rec.2020, and P3 D65. The heads-up display also allows users to switch or record with LUTs quickly.
Version 3.0 also adds open gate resolution recording, a new 2.0 anamorphic desqueeze setting, and auto exposure controls in auto mode. Rounding out the release, users will notice better performance and overall stability.
