Wine 10.12 adds optional EGL backend in X11 driver and support for Bluetooth LE services
Wine 10.12 has been released with several updates for users running Windows applications on Linux, macOS, and BSD. This release introduces an optional EGL backend in the X11 driver, targeting those who need access to a modern graphics stack and improved performance across supported platforms. In addition, Wine now supports Bluetooth Low Energy services, broadening compatibility with hardware and applications that rely on this wireless standard.
Alongside these user-facing enhancements, the update delivers increased support for generating Windows Runtime metadata using the Wine Interface Definition Language (WIDL) tool. This development is likely to assist application developers focused on modern Windows technologies. ARM64 builds are now enabled in the project's GitLab continuous integration environment, making it easier for contributors to validate changes on a wider range of architectures.
While core users benefit from these foundational improvements, the 10.12 release also resolves 17 bugs scattered across various subsystems and games, reinforcing Wine’s focus on reliability and smoother user experiences for both end users and developers.
