Markdown note-taking app Bear launches web version in public beta

Bear, the Markdown note-taking app known for its Apple ecosystem integration, has launched its new web version in public beta. This update allows users to browse, edit, and search their notes directly from any web browser, providing access when the native Mac, iPhone, or iPad apps are not available.

During the public beta, Bear Web is accessible without a Bear Pro subscription. However, users will need a subscription to sync notes with native Bear apps, and Bear Pro will be required for web access after the beta period. While the web app expands access, it does not fully replace the native Apple experience. Some advanced features such as export, encryption, and sketching capabilities are not currently supported online, though they are planned for future updates.

As the service is in public beta, Bear Web is expected to gain improvements over time. Some features from the desktop and mobile Bear apps may be missing or function differently in the web environment due to technical limitations. The development team emphasizes that Bear Web is intended to complement its Apple apps, rather than serve as a complete replacement.

When I had a macOS device, I really enjoyed using Bear as a quick way to take Markdown notes and to organise them. I've always wondered if they would expand to other platforms. Out of curiosity I went to try it out... and an Apple ID is needed to use it! I know you can head over to the iCloud website and register for a new Apple account, but shucks, I'd rather use my preferred email. 'tis a shame.
