Forgejo 12.0 brings UI & UX improvements, new sync fork feature, glTF 3D preview, and more
Forgejo 12.0 is now available, marking the latest update to this open source, self-hosted software forge platform. This release brings a range of usability and interface enhancements, with a strong emphasis on improving the per-commit review experience. Developers working with forks will benefit from a new sync fork feature, which streamlines the process of keeping forks in line with their upstream sources. The interface also clearly shows whether a fork is ahead or behind, listing the exact number of commits, which helps users track project divergence.
Following the workflow updates, Forgejo 12.0 enables direct preview of glTF 3D models from within the user interface, eliminating the need to download or rely on external tools for visual inspection. For those managing automated workflows, the platform can now send email notifications when a workflow fails if the option enable-email-notifications: true is set. Building on community features, Forgejo now converts Fediverse handles to clickable links using fedirect.toolforge.org, facilitating federated identity resolution via the Webfinger protocol.
Additional changes highlighted in this release include faster conflict checking during merges, updates to the application programming interface (API), and support for tab indentation within the comment editor, among others enhancements and bug fixes.

Wondering how long it'll be before we can sign up on one forge and help out with projects on other forges, without needing to sign up on those too.
