RAW image editor RawTherapee 5.12 improves color tools, camera compatibility, and more

RawTherapee 5.12 introduces new capabilities aimed at photographers seeking advanced raw editing options. The Raw Black Points tool gains a dehaze feature that sets black points to minimum image values, often reducing haze in photos. Distortion correction now offers a de-fish function tailored for equidistant fisheye images, accompanied by a manual scale adjuster within the Lens / Geometry section for fine-tuned results when automatic filling is insufficient.

Another highlight is the new ACES Reference Gamut Compression tool, which compresses highly saturated colors within a selectable gamut ahead of other color processing steps. For Canon users, all images in a RAW burst mode file can now be accessed instead of just the first six, removing a previous bottleneck for high-speed shooting. Support for demosaiced floating-point DNGs has also been introduced, expanding compatibility for raw workflows.

Following these enhancements, the resize module is now named Resize & Framing, adding a solid color border option with flexible sizing. The Abstract Profile tool gains local contrast enhancement, while Selective Editing receives new tone mapping operators, including sigmoid mapping and Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch, now reflected in tool naming. Expanded Sony lens recognition and improved support for select Canon, Fujifilm, and Sony cameras further widen camera compatibility in this release.
