CachyOS May 2025 update improves NVIDIA GPU handling and deprecates buggy web browser
The CachyOS team has released its May 2025 version with several functional upgrades and workflow changes. Most notably, the Live-ISO now detects NVIDIA graphics hardware automatically at boot, loading the correct driver module without user intervention. This eliminates the need for a separate NVIDIA boot option and streamlines the installation process for NVIDIA users.
Alongside installation improvements, users will see a revamped boot animation with unified theming and design language applied to all new installations. Additionally, handheld edition users also benefit from a series of new features and improvements designed to enhance usability on portable devices.
With this update, Cachy-Browser has been deprecated due to limited development. Users opening Cachy-Browser will receive a notification popup with instructions and a link on migrating their profiles to Firefox or other web browsers, ensuring a smooth transition.
For gamers, Proton-CachyOS now integrates Proton 10, retaining most features from the previous release while introducing crucial new ones. Updates include full Wayland support for the Steam Linux Runtime, fixes for wine-wayland, FSR4 Upgrade compatibility, and haptics for Dual Sense controllers, collectively expanding the Linux distribution's gaming capabilities.
